The Manitowoc County Board last night was able to overturn one of three vetoed items by County Executive Bob Ziegelbauer in the 2019 County Budget. Board chairman Jim Brey spoke with Seehafer News this morning and said the lowest expenditure was approved by the County Board.
Brey also made a request to spend over $9,850 to buy iPads, and go paperless for County supervisors.
And, perhaps the most controversial veto item, a $60,000 payment to Progress Lakeshore, the local economic development arm, also failed in the override attempt.
Brey added quote, “Manitowoc County has become an island that we just don’t participate in organized economic development.” The 2019 Manitowoc County budget, as now approved, calls for a tax rate increase of 1.5% for property taxpayers.
