A spokesperson for Marquette University says the significant, complex responsibilities which would come with running a homeless shelter are not something it can take on. Two Milwaukee aldermen had called on the school to open the doors of the former Ramada Hotel as a temporary shelter for people with nowhere to live. Marquette plans to demolish the seven-story building. The spokesperson pointed out that the university is involved in several outreach programs for the homeless already.
