The Lakeshore area recently had an additional 600 workers thanks to maintenance work that was being done at the NextEra Energy Point Beach Nuclear Plant. The work also brought in roughly $1.2 million. The nuclear plant shuts down one of its two energy units every year and a half or so to do the work. Due to the need to finish the job quickly, hundreds of workers and brought to the area, so work can be done around the clock. These workers will eat in area restaurants and stay in local hotels, which is where the $1.2 million figure comes in. The work takes around a month to complete.
