Hunters throughout Wisconsin spent the weekend filling their tags in search of the prized buck. Wisconsin’s Department of Health Services is warning those who were able to bring in a deer or two to be sure to process and cook their haul properly. State Health Officer Karen McKeown says that, “Wild game meat, including venison, bear meat, and wild fowl may contain a variety of bacteria and parasites that can cause illness in humans if the meat is not properly cooked,” The best way to ensure these bacteria are gone is to cook the meat thoroughly.
