The Center for Suicide Awareness, based out of Kaukauna, has received a grant from the Waupaca Community Foundation. Attached to this is an expansion in to Waupaca County, which the Center says is important, due to the needs of the rural areas. Barb Bigalke says that the LGBTQ community in the smaller communities may not have the resources necessary to handle the stresses that come with the lifestyle and this expansion may help. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention reports that one person dies from suicide every nine hours in Wisconsin. ).
