Bail was set at $500 recognizance bond for a 17-year-old Milwaukee male taken into custody Wednesday night after a vehicle pursuit in Manitowoc. Demetrius Jamal Selman is charged with felony fleeing an officer and first degree recklessly endangering safety. He was also issued citations for operating without a valid driver’s license and unreasonable and imprudent speed. Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Deputy Inspector Jason Orth tells Seehafer News that at 11:40 pm a Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to stop a vehicle on South 21st Street near Marshall Street. When the operator attempted to turn west on Columbus Street he drove over a curb colliding with a tree resulting in the car’s engine to immediately start on fire. The Deputy quickly assisted Selman and two passengers—Identified as a 17- year-old male and 18-year-old female both from Manitowoc—out of the burning vehicle and all three suffered what were described as “minor injuries”. The Manitowoc teenagers were not arrested or charged. No one else was hurt and no other property or structure damage was reported. The lone condition of bail is that Selman not operate a vehicle without a valid driver’s license and his initial court appearance is scheduled for February 4th
