This Saturday, the Autism Society of the Lakeshore will host an Ugly Sweater Run/Walk along the Lake Michigan shoreline. The event begins at 8 am on Saturday, though registration takes place on Friday night at the Baymont Hotel from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Everyone will receive a long sleeve shirt, goody bag, and food after the event. Awards will be given to the top overall female and male winners and the top 3 female and male winners in each age group category. The money raised from the event will go to The Autism Society of the Lakeshore, a non-profit organization affiliated with the Autism Society of America and the Autism Society of Wisconsin. The Autism Society of the Lakeshore is committed to providing community support – for families and individuals in the Manitowoc area. The money  raised will go back into the autism community for free family events like bowling, swimming, mini golf, a summer picnic, holiday party and the presents the children receive there, sensory-friendly events, maintenance of facilities, community autism education and training, stipends for families and individuals to attend conferences, social skills classes, sensory products, and more. The organization’s ongoing effort to provide assistance for those affected by autism is upheld by donations and regular fundraising events. There will also be a silent auction fundraiser going on at registration on Friday night and set up at the run/walk on Saturday morning. The cost for an individual registration is $25, and groups of 5 can register for $20/person. Children under 12 are welcome to join as well for $12. Come showcase the ugliest sweater you can find and help raise money for a great cause!
