Chippewa County authorities have been told the driver who lost control of his vehicle, killing three Girl Scouts and an adult, had been inhaling chemical vapors before the crash. A passenger says 21-year-old Colten Treu didn’t appear to be coherent and the two struggled over control of the truck Saturday morning. That’s when it went off the road and hit the Girl Scouts. Investigators are recommending 13 charges be filed against Treu. Fourth-graders Jayna Kelley, Autum Helgeson and Haylee Hickle were killed, along with Hickle’s 32-year-old mother, Sara Jo Schneider.
