Two Manitowoc adults are in the County Jail facing a long list of drug-related charges after their arrest Friday afternoon near a Manitowoc elementary school. Police Lieutenant Jason Erickson explains that city officers working a state-funded Drug & Warrant Interdiction Grant conducted a check for a wanted subject at a residence close to Franklin School. Police arrived & detected the odor of marijuana and found the wanted subject in the basement. After getting a search warrant, officers located what was termed a distributable amount of drugs, including methamphetamine, heroin, marijuana & high-concentrate THC, also known as dabs. Evidence seized from the residence included a scale, loaded firearm, drug packaging material, cash and various other items linked with the distribution of illicit drugs. Lieutenant Erickson said the Department of Human Services became involved as 2 children were removed from the dwelling, due to exposure to controlled substances. The 30-year old man was taken into custody for possession with intent to distribute heroin, methamphetamine & heroin all within 1,000 feet of a school while armed keeper of a drug house, child-neglect, possessing drug paraphernalia and bail-jumping. The other occupant, a 29-year old woman, is expected to be formally charged with being keeper of a drug house and child neglect. The couple is expected to appear for bail hearings later today.
