A local farmer will not be buying a 93.5 acre plot of land in the Town of Newton, after the Manitowoc County Board halted the sale. The sale was put on hold due to comments made by Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels, claiming the land, located at Hecker Road and Viebahn Street, would be valuable for economic development. The land has been owned by the county since 1941, and has been rented out to farmers since 1960. The farmer wanted to buy the land outright for around $581,000.
