The Silver Lake College of the Holy Family women’s basketball team fell to Judson University of Elgin, Illinois 85-59 in the season opener in Manitowoc last night. It spoiled the head-coaching debut of Mike Quistorf, who admitted his club came out slow in the first half, but really battled in the second half. Paige Boden. paced the Lady Lakers with 17 points while Kiel’s Tasha Rabe tallied 9 rebounds In the loss. Silver Lake will play another home game in the UW-Manitowoc gymnasium this Friday night at 7:00 against Viterbo University of La Crosse.
Meanwhile the Silver Lake College of the Holy Family Men travelled to the Chicago suburbs last night to play Trinity International University and lost 93-71 to the 21st ranked Trojans in Deerfield. It was Trinity’s home opener. The Lakers (now 0-3) were led by Byron Dean Junior & Michael Cantre with 20 & 19 points, respectively. Thomas Bullock added 10 points and 2 steals for Silver Lake, which committed 20 turnovers, compared to 11 for Trinity International. Head Coach Brandt Danals was pleased with his team’s overall performance, adding “we need to take a little better care of the ball and continue to battle on the glass but, our program is taking huge steps in the right direction.” The Lakers return to the road Saturday afternoon when they’ll face Trinity ‘Christian’ College in Palos Heights, Illinois.
