More vehicle versus deer crashes happen this time of year than any other. Jason Orth, Deputy Inspector of Operation with the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office, tells Seehafer News that deer are most active in the breeding phase in October/November.
Orth advises motorists to slow-down, be alert and avoid distractions.
The sheriff’s department spokesman suggests if drivers see deer on or near a roadway in the county to brake firmly without swerving.
Jason Orth said last year there were 736 reported vehicle-versus-deer crashes. So far in 2018 there have been 404 property damage accidents, with 8 of those involving personal injuries.
