Manitowoc County Habitat for Humanity has announced plans to create a new local ReSale center and Affiliate office in Manitowoc County. The Board of Directors and the committee members have initiated a $545,000 capital campaign to provide funding for the new building. This will be the first public campaign the Manitowoc Habitat has made in 27 years. Habitat for Humanity ReSale Centers are home improvement stores and donation centers that sell new and gently used furniture, appliances, home accessories, building materials and more to the public at a fraction of the retail price. Additionally, Resale Centers help provide a sustainable and steady income to assist more families in the community and provide job training opportunities to individuals in order to gain real life skills and become contributing members to society. The Manitowoc store is hoping to create two or three full time jobs once the Center is up and running. The Resale Center will be located at 1209 South 41st Street in Manitowoc, a move from the current location in Two Rivers. According to Jean Wakefield, Executive Director for Manitowoc County Habitat for Humanity, they are looking forward to having the resale center, warehouse, and offices all in the same location. The new Resale Center has hopes to open on November 15th, if not earlier. The organization has been blessed with numerous donations from companies in the area, including a large donation of home goods from Kohler. The Mission Statement of Habitat for Humanity reads in part : “Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope” and the Manitowoc store is certainly doing their part to live out this mission. Manitowoc County Habitat for Humanity has donated appliances to families in need, completed numerous exterior home repairs, and built new homes for low income families. One of their proudest accomplishments is being able to provide stable housing for single parent households. The ReStore Center will give Habitat greater resources to assist more families in years to come. The organization is looking for corporate sponsors and volunteers to help organize materials for the grand opening, as well as assist in the store once it opens. Make sure to check the group’s website (www.manitowochabitat.org) or its Facebook Page for updates on an opening date so you can get out and support one of Manitowoc’s phenomenal nonprofit organizations.
