Comedian Charlie Berens is set to return to Manitowoc’s Capitol Civic Center this weekend- October 26th and 27th. As creator and host of the online “Manitowoc Minute” series, Charlie brings attention, and sometimes pokes fun, to news stories in the area. A Wisconsin native himself (born and raised in the Milwaukee area), Berens attended UW-Madison to study journalism. While in a News Broadcasting course, one of Charlie’s professors told him he would never make it due to his Wisconsin accent. Berens moved to Los Angeles and hired a voice coach to help change his vocal tone, only to realize the voice in his head still spoke with a Wisconsin accent. Charlie decided to embrace his inner Wisconsinite, and his Manitowoc Minute persona was born. Outside of the video series, Berens has been involved in numerous other comedy gigs, including being a regular feature on Funny or Die, hosting a Sports Gameshow, and covering the Presidential Election for MTV. Charlie turned his Manitowoc Minute series into a standup comedy show and is currently on tour to 17 different cities around the Midwest. Tickets are still available for the Manitowoc shows. In the words of Charlie, “Keep‘er movin’ all da way down to da Capital Civic Centre real quick once. We’ll have two, tree beers. As always, go Packers and”…well, you know the rest.
