The president of the Milwaukee Common Council has revealed a criminal investigation is being conducted into the city’s health department. Ashanti Hamilton made the information public in a response to criticism from Alderman Tony Zielinski, who said a subpoena should have been issued to compel former Health Commissioner Bevan Baker to testify about the lead program. Hamilton says Baker had agreed to answer questions, but when he heard about the actions of the district attorney’s office, he decided to hire a lawyer.
