The Manitowoc Public School District Board of Education has approved a decrease of the local tax levy in the 2018-19 budget. Superintendent Mark Holzman tells Seehafer News the amended “net tax” levy rate is $7.90 per $1000 of equalized property tax value—or $790 on a $100 thousand home—a decrease of about 1.7 percent.
Holzman says a huge factor for the decrease was that overall property values in the district increased 4.72 percent compared to a decline of 1.68 percent in the last budget cycle. He adds the state also provided the district with more resources than anticipated and by law they must reallocate those back to the taxpayer.
The total “local tax levied” amount in the nearly $77 million budget is slightly more than $19 Million.
