The Wisconsin Policy Forum reports 20 of the state’s 72 counties don’t have a practicing psychiatrist available. The Medical College of Wisconsin has started two psychiatry residency programs and loan and grant assistance programs are in place to draw psychiatrists to underserved regions. Another report issued last year found more than half of the adults in the state who need mental health treatment aren’t getting it.
