The Valders High School Boys Cross Country team is a Sectional champion! The Vikings, who are defending WIAA Division-2 State champs, captured the Kiel Sectional on Saturday with a low score of 31 points, or 3 better than runner up Notre Dame Academy. Coach Bill Dietrich said while the Tritons had the first two places, his Vikings ran 3, 4 and 5 with Jacob Pattee, Clay Taylor and Nate Griepentrog all within 6 one hundredths of a second of each other! Shane Griepentrog & Josiah Welch finished 9th & 10th, respectively. In the Girls sectional, Anna Gallagher, of Two Rivers won the meet and will also be advancing to State in Wisconsin Rapids. The Raiders placed 4th as a team on a race-day that included Snow, 25-mile-per-hour-winds and wet conditions for the runners.
Meanwhile Manitowoc Lutheran hosted the Division 3 Sectional at Meadow Links Golf Course. The Lancer boys finished 3rd, just short of advancing to the State meet. Josh Zander of Lutheran is an individual state qualifier and will be making his 3rd appearance at the Ridges Golf Course. Other individual qualifiers from the area include: Mikayla Gove from Mishicot and Derek Cherney of Reedsville. Brillion is sending its’ Boys team to State after winning the D-3 Sectional.
