Manitowoc County’s Highway Commissioner says the track crossing replacement as part of the Rapids Road CN Railroad construction project, has been completed along with new signal installation and other upgrades. Commissioner Marc Holsen explains that CN is required to allow for a determined amount of “live” train crossings prior to authorizing the re-opening of the highway. Canadian National is tentatively anticipating making that happen either next Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning. Holsen said the local highway department will re-open that segment of County R/Rapids Road, once given the go head. He says in the interim the existing detour will remain in place. The commissioner stated the affected segment of highway will experience various phases of utility work during the next couple of months, ahead of the main projects in 2019. Holsen points out that although occasional traffic delays may be encountered, no full closures are- expected while this work is performed.
