October 20th is Crime Prevention Day in Manitowoc County, and there will be a drug disposal site set up at the County Expo Grounds. Everyone is encouraged to bring any unwanted drugs and medications so they can be disposed of free of charge. All pills must be placed in quart sized or smaller ziplock baggies, but crèmes, powders and liquids can remain in their original containers. Prescription bottles, and any medical aids, such as needles or inhalers will not be accepted. The collection will run from 10:00 AM-2:00 PM in the Merchants Building at the Expo Grounds.

During Crime Prevention Day you can also bring in your mercury fever thermometers and receive a complimentary digital thermometer. All household mercury and mercury containing devices less than 7” by 12” will be accepted. Only household thermometers are eligible for the exchange program. One digital thermometer per household. While supplies last. Transport mercury in a sealed, cushioned container and keep separate from any medications you are dropping off.
