Animal control officers in northeastern Illinois confirm the discovery of a four-foot alligator in Lake Michigan. A kayaker made the discovery at Waukegan Harbor about 200 yards from the shore. The gator was turned over to the Wildlife Discovery Center in Lake Forest. Experts say it wouldn’t have survived long because its jaws were held shut by a rubber band and the water was too cold. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is one of the investigative agencies on the case.
