The Manitowoc Fire-Rescue department was summoned on Saturday afternoon to a fire call at Manitowoc Pattern and Machining, 4315 Expo Drive. Deputy Chief Karl Koch said when his personnel pulled up to the scene about 1:00 pm, smoke was seen coming from the edge of the roof and the closed overhead doors. Firefighters entered the building and observed fire and smoke in the production area and quickly brought the blaze under control. Fire damage was limited to the area of a manufacturing machine, while smoke and water damage affected most of the business. Koch says an exact dollar loss hasn’t been determined and the cause of the fire was still under investigation.
Rockwood and Silver Creek Departments provided backup staffing during the incident and the MFRD was assisted on site by the city police department, Wisconsin Public Service, Manitowoc Public Utilities and Department of Infrastructure.
