A northwestern Wisconsin bear hunter says he wasn’t worried at first, then realized he might be in trouble. Tye Carlson was attacked by a 357-pound bear last weekend near Wascott in Douglas County. Carlson says he has hunted black bears for more than 40 years, but never felt threatened. He survived but had to have hundreds of stitches. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources will test the bear’s head for rabies, but that isn’t expected to be the case. Carlson says he doesn’t blame the bear for trying to survive the incident.
