The Grant County Sheriff’s Office says a man from the village of Montfort was rescued Tuesday night after falling into a sinkhole. Sheriff’s officials say the victim had fallen into the sinkhole after ground, about three feet from his garage, gave away. Officers say the man was trapped in the hole for 30 minutes until someone heard screams for help. Deputies say a neighbor came to the scene placed a step ladder into the hole, however the hole was unstable and 25 feet deep, so the neighbor backed up his truck up to the hole, put a log chain on the frame of a truck and threw the other end of the chain into the hole so the man could grab it and stabilize himself. Rescue crews were called to the scene. A strap was lowered to the man and a rope attached to it. Together all the first responders on scene were able to pull the man to safety. The man was evaluated by E-M-S personnel but was not transported to a medical facility. No injuries were reported.
