It’s no secret that the opioid epidemic is a big problem in Wisconsin. In 2016, 865 people died from opioid overdoses, which is a higher rate than the national average. The Wisconsin DHS now has more funding to help battle the epidemic, after receiving nearly $24 million from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Department of Health Services Deputy Secretary Tom Engels said “This funding will help sustain and enhance critical prevention, treatment, and recovery programs to save Wisconsin lives.”
