Flu season is fast approaching, and the Wisconsin department of Health Services is trying to avoid the deadly trend that swept the state last year. Over 7,500 people were hospitalized during the last flu season, and nearly 380 died from the illness. State Health Officer Karen McKeown warns, “The dangers of the flu are real, especially for the very young, for older adults, and for those with other health problems.” The best way to avoid such an issue is to get the flu shot for yourself and your family. The main reason for the drastic numbers was that only 36% of Wisconsin residents received a flu shot, which McKeown says has room for improvement.
