The Valders High School boys cross country team finished only behind Division-1 power, Stevens Point, at Saturday’s Len Nikolai Manitowoc Invite at Meadow Links Golf course. SPASH won the team title with 32-points while the Vikings were runnerup at 75 in the ‘23’-team field of runners. Jacob Patte topped Valders competitors with a 7th place finish in 16:42, freshman Clay Taylor was 9th…at 16:45. The Viking ‘Girls’ placed 12th of 19 schools paced by Taylor Zucchi who was 49th in just over 22 minutes. The host Manitowoc Lincoln Boys were 11th and paced by Sam Jacobsen. The Ships were 15th in the Girls division..and led by Breanna Reinhart, and, according to Valders coach Bill Dietrict Len Nikolai, the former longtime coach at Lincoln High School, was there “playing tunes on his accordian..and had a ‘unique’ rendition of the National Anthem to start the races.”
