People in Wisconsin have been adopting pets from the Carolinas that were either abandoned or were rescued from the streets. While this is a very noble cause and is definitely encouraged, the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture Trade and Consumer Protection is informing citizens that there are requirements that need to be met before doing so. One of the requirements is that you must have a certificate of veterinary inspection from the state of origin. The certificate must have been issued within 30 days of bringing the animal into Wisconsin. Another requirement is that you may not bring in any dog that has been found positive for heartworm disease in the state of origin until the appropriate heartworm treatment protocol has been completed.
