Bail was set at $500 cash for a 38-year-old Neenah man was taken into custody early this morning after a vehicle pursuit in Manitowoc County. Steve W. Mier is charged with Felony Fleeing/Eluding and Felony Recklessly Endangering Safety. He was also cited for unreasonable and imprudent speed—Operating left of center and Operating after suspension. In addition—Mier had three active warrants out for his arrest—one from the Department of Corrections on a Parole Violation—the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office on a charge of Theft by Contractor Fraud and the West Allis Police Department on a City Ordinance Violation for an Abandoned Vehicle. Manitowoc County Sheriff Deputy Inspector Jason Orth says a sheriff’s deputy initiated a traffic stop about 2 AM on County Road JJ east of I-43 in Manitowoc Rapids for traffic law and vehicle equipment violations. Mier proceeded to take-off westbound on County Hwy. J upon the deputy’s “on-foot” approach. A tire-deflation device at the intersection of highways J&JJ successfully flattened all four tires. However—Mier continued southbound on “J” turning into a driveway and proceeded into a cut corn-field where eventually the deputy performed a successful pursuit technique and he was taken into custody. The nearly eight-mile pursuit reached speeds of 105 miles -per-hour. Inspector Orth says the squad car and Mier’s vehicle each sustained “minor-Damage” and no one was injured. Conditions of bail include that Mier maintain absolute sobriety from drugs and alcohol and provide photos and prints at the Sheriff’s Department upon release. He remains in the County jail on a probation hold and his initial appearance is scheduled for this coming Monday at 230.
