The Manitowoc Public School District and the City of Manitowoc began a special Bus ridership agreement back in February. Jim Muenzenmeyer, Manager of Maritime Metro Transit, tells Seehafer News that Mayor Justin Nickels was “instrumental in getting the partnership started.”
THE MPSD gave the local transit system money so that its’ students can ride free of charge. Muenzenmeyer says such agreements are popular in other regions of the state.
Meanwhile, the last time the city ordered buses they went with the smaller vehicles but It’s evident those aren’t holding up. The transit manager said new buses are on order.
Muenzenmeyer explains the cost of those new buses is grant-subsidized with an 80/20 federal/local split.
