The public is invited to take part in the painting of a public mural in downtown Manitowoc on the corner of Jay and 9th Street. The mural project is part of Manitowoc’s first Art Slam and will be open to public participation on September 15th from 9am to 5pm, and Sunday the 16th, from 9am until it is completed. An outline of an image will be projected on the wall and community members are invited to join in and paint by number.
The public mural was made possible by many commmunity members. Erin LaBonte, Associate Professor Art SLC; David Carpenter, Adjunct Instructor at SLC; and, Don Krumpos of Green Bay and JabberwockStudio in Algoma collaborated on the design and execution. Paint for the mural was sponsored by Jeremiah Novak and Brock Weier.
Other community members have been working on prepping the space. Rhienna Gabriel has been acid washing the wall in segments. After that was completed repairs were made as needed and Silver Lake College art students primed the mural wall.
