A western Wisconsin man has to serve 44 days in jail for taking four Blandings turtles from their nesting site in Minnesota to his home in La Crosse. Twenty-eight-year-old Markos Diderrich had entered a guilty plea to a felony violation of the Lacey Act in June. He was sentenced earlier this week in U-S District Court in Madison. Prosecutors said Diderrich illegally sold the turtles to a commercial reptile dealer in Florida. Blandings turtles are on the threatened species list.
