The Holiday Parade Foundation of Milwaukee made a bittersweet announcement last Wednesday. The 2017 Milwaukee Holiday Parade was its last. The family that has been organizing the free event for the past 66 years is now retiring from managing the parade. In a news release the DeGrace family cites that decreased financial support, vendor changes along with downtown construction and route logistics contributed to the decision. 3 generations of the Degrace family have led the parade since 1953. Susan DeGrace Spaeth said she hopes someone will come in and change the face of the parade and make it their own. Organizers did not recieve the necessary funds to to hold the parade this year. Fundraising goals have been $150,000 in recent years.
