Manitowoc’s 4-acre Floral Showcase, West of the Lake Gardens, will be closing’for the season early this year, due to a construction project. Their last day for viewing the gardens will be Monday, Labor Day. Don Cisler, head gardener and horticulturist, tells Seehafer News that with increased visitors the last few years….they’ve run-out-of-parking spaces.
Cisler says..they’ve been considering an expansion of parking spaces the last couple of years.
The project, which will accommodate 39-new stalls, will require the removal of a number of trees on the property along Memorial Drive.
Cisler emphasized the new parking area won’t be just a blacktop surface, but rather “a little more cutting edge.”
When the Gardens’ close, effective Tuesday, tree-cutting will begin to make way for the parking expansion. Hamann Construction of Manitowoc is the general contractor. Cisler tells us they raise between 15-and-18-thousand annuals, with perennials in the background area and 200 rose bushes.
