Brown County’s UW Extension is continuing their partnership with the Green Bay Packers for the second year in the Planting for a Purpose program. The program encourages gardeners to donate a portion of their produce to local food pantries. Planting for a Purpose began in 2017 in response to reports from local pantries that there is a great and unmet need for fresh produce donations for clients. As of the beginning of August 2018, pantries and donors had reported over 4,500 pounds of donated produce since April, which is nearly double the amount donated at this point last year. All local gardeners are encouraged to sign up for the program and pledge to donate a portion of their harvest to a local food pantry. A list of pantries and their preferred donation dates and times is listed at: browncountycommunitygardens.org.
