A Sheboygan woman is dead after she drowned while swimming in Ponto Lake, located in rural Backus Minnesota Saturday afternoon. The Cass County Sheriff’s Department responded to the lake at around 4:30 PM when the lifeless body of the woman was found in the water. Lifesaving efforts were administered by first responders, and she was transferred to an area hospital. Efforts to save the woman were not effective, and she died a day later. The investigation into the death is still ongoing, with an autopsy scheduled with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office. The identity of the woman is not being released until members of her family have been notified.
