City officials in La Crosse say the cost of needed road repairs is growing much faster than the money they have available. La Crosse plans to fix about eight miles of roads this year, but the city had to use reserve funding to pay for it. The mayor says there is no other source of funding than the property tax, so a wheel tax should be considered. So-called wheel taxes are collected when a vehicle owner registers with the city. It’s estimated La Crosse could raise an extra one-million dollars-a-year that way.
