The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources hopes requiring deer farms to upgrade their fences will help slow the spread of chronic wasting disease. All Wisconsin deer farms which have had an infection will have to install a second fence or a solid barrier. Farms which haven’t had a C-W-D infection would have three options — add a second fence, a solid barrier or an electric fence. The Resources board approved the emergency rule recently and it gives deer farms in the state one year to comply. The fencing could cost up to one-point-three million dollars.
