The Manitowoc Police Department held a news conference earlier today for the case involving the death of a three year old child in the city. Sargent Andrew Trilling.
The 46 year old male suspect was already in police custody on separate, unrelated charges, and the 38 year old female suspect, both from Manitowoc, was apprehended shortly after. The couple, who have a 5 year old child in common, cared for the unnamed child for the “summer months” in a day care style capacity.
The cause of death for the child is unknown at this time, and the autopsy will be performed by an outside entity. The names of the suspects have not been released, as they have not appeared for their bail hearing at this time. Their five year old child has been place outside of the home by the Department of Human Services. SGT Trilling said this kind of case is a rarity in Manitowoc, and has had a profound impact on the investigative team.
The names of both suspects will be released after they have their bail hearings tomorrow at 12:45.
