A 37-year old home-care worker is accused of stealing from and trying to defraud an elderly Manitowoc woman who was in her care. A police report indicates the Manitowoc woman is in the County Jail facing charges of fraud against a financial institution and unauthorized use of an individual’s personal information. The female is also held on a probation & parole arrest warrant. The victim, who is 89, noticed money missing from her purse along with some medication and suspected the woman in custody. The victim planted a $5-dollar bill under a container of crackers to ‘test’ the subject and then left the room, she later returned to discover the money was gone. She confronted the home-care worker and informed her she was fired. The 37-year old apologized for stealing the money, stating she just needed to buy diapers for her child. The victim also received information from her bank late yesterday that someone unsuccessfully tried to apply for a loan in her name.
