The number of traffic related deaths throughout the state has been showing a decline from last year. According to a release by the Department of Transportation, there have been 309 deaths on Wisconsin roads this year, compared to 330 during the same time last year, a 6% decrease. This follows a national trend, with traffic related deaths dropping 3.6%. While the cause of the trend cannot be pinpointed, a safe 4th of July weekend help drastically. Normally that stretch of time is one of the worst throughout the year, but this year only two deaths were reported. A DOT spokesman stated that it is possible that higher seatbelt usage is a potential reason, and drivers are “making better decisions.”
