A Dodge County man accused of fatally striking a pedestrian after inhaling aerosol was sentenced Friday to two years behind bars. Prosecutors say 23-year-old Cody Buechel from the village of Reeseville earlier pleaded no contest to homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle in the 2015 death of 17-year-old Lukas Jaeger of Juneau. He was fatally struck as he walked with five friends along Highway G in Lowell. None of the others were injured. Buechel allegedly told officers he had dropped his can of soda and was reaching for it when he veered off the road and struck Jaeger. Buechel initially denied inhaling from an aerosol can, but later admitted to huffing just prior to driving. A judge also ordered Buechel to serve four years of extended supervision and pay 15-thousand dollars in restitution.
