A Madison man who killed his wife, then blew up their home to cover up the crime, may be eligible for parole one day. A Dane County judge gave Steven Pirus a mandatory life sentence earlier this year. Even though Pirus could potentially be released under supervision after serving at least 20 years, he wouldn’t be eligible until he is more than 80 years old. Pirus pleaded guilty in April. A hearing for Pirus is scheduled for this afternoon in Madison where he will learn if the judge agrees with the plea deal, including the parole possibility.
