Manitowoc Lutheran and St. Francis of Assisi are two schools that were included in the latest round of school safety grants awarded today by the State Department of Justice. Manitowoc Lutheran receives $20 thousand while St. Francis of Assisi was awarded slightly more than $27 thousand— a little more than $4 thousand above the applied for amount of $22,827. Meanwhile Chilton received $26 thousand.

The Manitowoc Republican is the Chairman of the Assembly Mental Health Committee. He says threats come in many different forms and mental health is another aspect of safety that’s often overlooked.
Grant money was previously awarded to Roncalli along with the Valders, Mishicot, Kiel, Brillion, Denmark, New Holstein and Sheboygan school districts. The grants stem from part of Wisconsin’s $100 million School Safety Grant Initiative signed into law by Governor Walker in March. All grant money going towards financing implementations to make schools safer for students. Attorney General Brad Schimel says in this round of funding 89 schools and school districts statewide received a total-just shy of $4 million.
