Health officials say a dead bird found in Dane County has tested positive for West Nile virus. Officials from Public Health Madison and Dane County say this is the first bird that tested positive for the virus in Dane County this year since monitoring for the mosquito-transmitted virus began May 1st. West Nile virus is spread through the bite of an infected mosquito. Mosquitoes get the virus by feeding on infected birds. Wisconsin Division of Public Health officials say they will continue surveillance for West Nile virus through the summer.
