NEWGLSF Salmon Derby Wrap-up….dr…..Sports…..07-09-18.
Nearly 7-thousand pounds of fish were caught this past weekend at the ‘44th annual Northeastern Wisconsin Great Lakes Sport Fishing Salmon Derby, headquartered at the Manitowoc Marina.
Derby chair Tom Kocourek said 729 Trout & Salmon were hauled-in by the 425 registered fishermen & women at the 3-day festival. First-place winners in the 5-fish categories were:
King Salmon….28.78 pounds caught by Ken Benter.
Coho Salmon….14.63 pounds by Joshua Velleskey.
Rainbow Trout…16.16 pounds..caught by Tony Castle.
Brown Trout…22.21 pounds turned in by Kevin Groh.
And biggest Lake Trout of 23.94 pounds caught by Cooper Kneser.
A total of 24-boats competed in the Super Tournament on Saturday from five until noon, with the top 5 fish weighed-in by each crew. Earning first place and a prize of $1,400 was Captain Jeremy LeClair, with a winning weight of 99.58 pounds. Second & third place finishers took home cash prizes of $500 and $300, respectively. And, in the free Kid’s Fishing Derby Saturday morning, organized by Anna Beatty, 58 youngsters were able to wet-a-line with each child receiving a prize!
