A spokesman for Milwaukee’s Legislative Reference Bureau tells the members of a Common Council committee the city’s health department is failing to clean up lead-poisoned homes. Citations issued for failure to fix lead-contaminated homes fell from 46 to just one last year. City health officials oversaw no lead abatements in 2016 or 2017. City leaders were also told preliminary tests for children with elevated levels of lead in their blood were not verified by the health department.
