Madison police say the city is at the epidemic stage for heroin deaths. When the final numbers are totaled, June is expected to be the worst month in the city’s history. Emergency responders were called to 35 known drug overdoses during the month. That compares to nine calls in June 2017. Eleven overdoses resulted in death this year, compared to two during the same month the year before.
