Two members of the Delegation from Domažlice Czech Republic played a traditional Czech song at the celebration of the Sister City relationship between them and Two Rivers yesterday. A large group gathered outside City Hall to witness the unveiling of a plaque, which matches one that is displayed in Domažlice, honoring LT Col Matt Konop, who liberated the city back in WWII. City Manager Greg Buckley was the emcee for the event.
As the names of the delegates are tough to say for most Americans, Buckley asked Domažlice Town Councilor and Chairman of the Sister City Delegation, Kamil (cah-MEAL) Jindirch (gin-rich) to introduce the 10 person delegation.
On top of the Delegation, the members of the members of the Two Rivers Sister City Delegation and members of the Konop family were recognizes, as well as a very special guest.
Buckley gifted Mr. Lizec with a commemorative poster from the Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum as well as some other mementos. Lizec was given time to address the crowd.
After playing the song for those in attendace, Kamil had a special surprise for Buckley.
Jindrich told us that he, along with the rest of the delegation were very happy to have made the trans-global trip, and loved the car show.
The delegation has plenty more planned for their time here, including a trip to Lambeau Field, and the Wisconsin Maritime Museum.
