The D-N-R Biologist for Manitowoc and Calumet Counties has a primary responsibility of managing state wildlife properties in Collins Marsh, Killsnake Wildlife Area and Brillion Marsh. Steve Esterly says he and others were involved this week in banding Canadian Geese in an effort to learn their migratory patterns.
Esterly explains while the geese are on the ground molting, they corral them into a Big pen.
The D-N-R biologist said those bands are ‘primarily returned by Hunters with a specific number & location. He mentioned that birds banded at Collins Marsh, for example, ended up being harvested in places from northern Canada all the way down to Texas & Florida.
